General Management and Productivity
- Getting things done by David Allen - I’ve read a lot of texts about time management, organisation etc. but the techniques didn’t seem to work for me. This book is different and has made a huge difference over the last two years. There are other books with the same title, so make sure that the author is David Allen. In Australia it is titled “How to get things done”. 43folders put me on to this one, but it is also recommended on manager tools.
- The Effective Executive by Peter Drucker - this is short introduction to management that really tells you what is all about. I’ll be reading it many times. I also liked Management: Tasks, Responsibilities, Practices, especially the section on service institutions (government, hospitals, universites etc.) vs other organisations. Manager tools put me on to these.
- Information Rules by Shapiro and Varian - has a lot of interesting discussion about the value and pricing of software and information services. Carrie Lui put me on to this one.
